Government Notice: GN 392 in GG 44777 on 29 June 2021

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, published the Draft Amended Format and Procedure for Nomination of World Heritage Sites in the Republic of South Africa under section 6 of the WHCA (“the Procedure”) for public comments.

The Procedure provides guidance to anyone who intends to propose properties for World Heritage status to UNESCO through the Department and covers key requirements for both the tentative listing and nomination process for inscription. A need has however been identified to strengthen this Document for subsequent submissions of all future World Heritage nominations, including those that are currently on the tentative list.

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments and inputs on or before 28 July 2021. For a copy of the Government Notice click here.
